Teaching

I am a drama and music specialist with with over twenty years’ experience teaching and directing alongside my practice as a working performer. I am positive, reliable, dynamic, warm and engaging in my teaching style. I love working with children, young people and adults and inspiring them to be the best they can be. Having taught in a range of environments and with students of differing needs, I have an empathy and understanding of different learning styles and abilities as well as experience managing larger groups as well as working one on one.  As a working performer, I have found that my working knowledge of the business raises standards in my teaching practice and brings a dynamism to the teaching environment.

I am currently teaching singing, Lamda and drama lessons and audition and interview technique online. Please follow my facebook page for free teaching content and tips, and to book a lesson.

I have a PGDip in “Musical Theatre” from the Royal Schools Royal Academy of Music/Royal College of Music Combined Course and a BA (2:1) in English Literature and Theatre Studies (including a Music Subsidiary) from Leeds University.

Alongside a busy performing career I have over twenty years’ experience working for companies such as Stagecoach Performing Arts, Bigfoot Arts Education, Wise Moves Dance Limited and Perform. She taught a BTEC in Performing Arts at Canbury School (Key Stage 4)  as well as classroom music and drama for Key Stage 3.

I have directed 3 youth operas (Summer Music on the Shannon) and 3 summer projects for British Youth Music Theatre. I have delivered drama workshops in primary and secondary schools-music, physical theatre, mask workshops, improvisation, storytelling and Shakespeare.

SINGING: I work with children and adults, beginners, young professionals and those who’d just like to become more confident singing and to do it for fun. I mostly teach at home, but also am open to travelling to you.

A review from one of my pupils: “The lessons push me to my best, but not out of my comfort zone. Airlie’s informal take on singing coaching keeps me relaxed and eager to do more. I never thought of myself as a soprano before, but after one lesson with Airlie I now realise the heights to which my voice can stretch.”
